Bandar Seri Begawan -
Lord Justice Sir John Laws, a Lord Justice of Appeal
of England and Wales and also the current Treasurer of the
Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, paid a two-day visit
to Brunei on September 27, 2010. He is also a
member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in
London. The Privy Council is the final court of appeal of
Brunei for civil matters, where parties have mutually agreed
to refer all civil appeals to.
During his visit to Brunei,
the Britain Brunei Business Forum (BBBF) hosted a luncheon at the
Residence of His Excellency Rob Fenn, The British High Commissioner, and
a High Tea at the Radisson Hotel in the capital. Also in
attendance was Guest of Honour HRH Princess Hajah
Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah, and members of the Attorney
General's Chambers, the Brunei Legislative Council, as well
as Private Law Firms. His main talk focused on 'The rule of
Law.' |
