25th May 2011
A
High Tea Talk was held between the BBBF and the Ministry of
Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) at Laksamana College
of Business, where more than 50 invited guests comprising
senior government officials, members of the BBBF and
business figures listened to a presentation by the Ministry
on its various initiatives in the area of local SME
Development.
The tea
provided MIPR with the opportunity to outline its
initiatives in the areas of SME Development, the Brunei
Halal brand and specific initiatives, like the Agro-Tech
Park. It also gave the local business community in Brunei an
opportunity to provide feedback on MIPR’s initiatives, and
thereby contribute to the development of government policy
on these projects.
Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources
highlighted the fact that the
answer to the local SMEs is that subsidy is not a long-term
solution, and to continue to look at subsidy as a solution
to stay competitive, will more likely lead to an an endless
cycle.
